The current system for obtaining a permit to perform space activities in Australia is convoluted and complex. Firstly, proof of statutory and regulatory compliance must be obtained from a long list of companies and agencies. These groups all require separate applications before any space operator can gain its certificate of compliance. To complicate matters further, this certificate of compliance may or may not be dependent on other existing compliances. This all creates timeconsuming and repetitive “busy work” as a pre-condition to the real goal: a launch to space. Blue Dwarf is using machine intelligence and usability design to remove that busy-work, provide simple tools, and help its clients reach their goals faster.

Blue Dwarf is a three-person team, situated on Kaurna Land (Adelaide, South Australia), with an outpost on Meintangk Land (Naracoorte, South Australia). The team have backgrounds in business, technology, and law while all sharing a common passion for space. Importantly, the team is most passionate about making space more accessible. The aim of the company is to bridge the gap between regulation and innovation, helping clients reach for the stars while still ticking all the right boxes down on Earth.

  • Single point of contact for all permit requirements, eliminating repetition in application process
  • Using machine intelligence to identify steps in hierarchical registration, certification, and permit application process
  • Dashboard to manage space activities and data requirements with full document repository.

Blue Dwarf provide a single point of contact and a single entry of data to simplify the process of applying for permits to perform space activities. Using machine intelligence, the platform determines exactly what documents are required to perform a specified space activity, then requests the data pertinent to perform all steps required to gain the relevant permits. Data is reused where possible to avoid clients needing to fill in many forms with mostly the same information, preventing repetition and frustration.

Blue Dwarf provide staged data entry where clients can insert information all at once, or as required. Through a dashboard, clients can maintain jobs with Blue Dwarf, review application statuses, modify notifications, and add information to applications as it comes to hand. Clients have access to a document repository of all of applications, certifications, registrations and permits that can be downloaded at any time or reused where available. Blue Dwarf maintains the project from start to finish, so that each component that is achieved will automatically trigger the next.

Blue Dwarf technology is modular and can be applied across a range of industries. Regulatory requirements are essentially “plug and play”, so Blue Dwarf can modify them according to changing requirements across multiple industries, or as the space industry matures. In doing this, the company are also well positioned to expand operations abroad.

Blue Dwarf is seeking opportunities to partner with preferred suppliers to develop symbiotic data relationships built on trust and security that will enable a faster workflow. The company will work with suppliers to provide extensible data APIs that enable them to feed data through in a format directly compatible with Blue Dwarf’s systems to ease data input requirements. Additionally, Blue Dwarf is seeking investor funding.
