Programs
The Innovation & Collaboration Centre is home to Venture Catalyst and the state's first space incubator program Venture Catalyst Space. These programs are designed to help founders start their business.
We had a memorable first week for our new recruits, including networking events with industry experts, rubbing shoulders at the Australian Space Forum, and informative seminars about the space and defense sector.
Founder of space advertising startup Up&Up, Austin Lovell, said he was excited by the ICC’s strong sense of community.
“I’ve been to other startup incubators before, and other programs, and the community is definitely not the same as it is here,” Austin said.
“I’m going into an area that I have no experience in, space startups are something completely new to me.
“So being in a program that has had very successful space startups go through it is going to give me the knowledge and backing to make Up&Up as successful as possible.”
Operations Manager of ESpy, Jill Dewey, said she could see the ICC’s ecosystem of industry connections would enable the anti-poaching startup to scale at speed.
“We’ve been really happy with all the interactions we’ve had, either with the ICC or the experts that have been provided to us already,” Jill said.
“The industry contacts have been fantastic, and the guidance has been really good and it’s just week one.
ESpy is looking to advance its sophisticated software that’s designed to analysis hyperspectral satellite images as it hunts for poachers in the ocean.
The 10 startups are now embedded in the Venture Catalyst Space program, where they’ll receive mentoring and workshopping and become further exposed to the Australian space network.
We expect to see big things out of this group! Watch this space.

The Hex20 team, led by founder Lloyd Jacob, has been chosen for the Australian Government’s innovation and entrepreneurship defense program.
The program, called D.Start Ignite, assists researchers and SMEs in identifying real-world defense applications for their science and technology.
Hex20, which was part of the 2021 Venture Catalyst Space program, is developing a full-stream technology solution for LEO, MEO, and GEO satellites.
It is also expanding capabilities in critical technologies with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, Edge Computing, and Advanced Sensor Technologies.
Lloyd says the D.Start Ignite program will help his team “understand and navigate” the complex defence industry landscape and open doors.
“The program will allow us to meet the prime players in the defence,” Lloyd said.
Hex20 has also been selected for the INDO PACIFIC 2022 International Maritime Exhibition.

“Don’t compare yourself to the superhumans who started the latest and greatest tech wonder companies. It will only discourage you. Learn from them, but be thankful that you have what it takes”
