From Friday 29 July to Sunday 31 July, more than 150 entrepreneurs, innovators, coders, artists and makers of all different ages came to the University of South Australia’s Innovation & Collaboration Centre to participate in Unleashed, the annual international open data competition held across Australia and New Zealand.
By offering world class facilities and unique spaces, such as the Innovation & Collaboration Centre, Makers Studio and the Digital and Design workshops, 30 teams competed and used government open data to create and develop new ideas, strategies and designs across the whole weekend.
Unleashed competitors now await their fate with judges final decisions announced at the South Australian Unleashed Awards night held Friday 16 September 2016 and the National Awards held later in the year. The ICC and Data to Decisions CRC sponsored and awarded three spirit prizes on the final day, to teams who best demonstrated the true spirit of Unleashed. The winning teams were The Walking Hackers, Hack 5, and Bad Snakes.
The event would also not have been possible without the support from all the staff, volunteers and mentors who gave up their time to assist throughout the whole weekend. All of the different departments from the University, especially ICT, FM Assist and School of Art, Architecture and Design, collaborated and worked together to ensure Unleashed was a huge success. Unleashed would also not have been possible without the generous support of all the sponsors. These included Coca-Cola Amatil, Kytons Bakery, Data to Decisions C2C, ACS, Buddy, Jemsoft and Podista.
