Ignite SA to award three SA research institutions $10k

Ignite SA has launched the Triple 10 Research Grant initiative, to support and build upon existing applications using advanced networks that provide transformative public benefit.

A partnership between the State Government and UniSA, Ignite SA was launched in October 2017 to support the development of innovative applications using South Australia’s high speed, advanced networks.

Ignite SA’s community leader and Manager of UniSA’s Innovation & Collaboration Centre, Jasmine Vreugdenburg says a total of $30,000 will be injected directly into research projects in South Australia.

“We want to support existing local investments and capabilities that are in the pipeline or can be further developed,” Vreugdenburg says.

“We also want to provide the successful research projects with an avenue to commercialise their research through new partnerships and markets.”

All applications must be for projects that are currently supported by a research institute in South Australia and use next-generation technologies that require high-speed, advanced networks.

Successful candidates will have access to the US Ignite network, a not-for-profit organisation enabling the creation of next generation applications and services that leverage advance networking technologies to build the foundation for smart communities, including cities, rural areas, regions and states.

South Australia is the first international city to join the growing US Ignite Smart Gigabit Communities program, creating new opportunities for innovative businesses to collaborate and share information with 25 other US Ignite communities.

Ignite SA is looking at supporting a successful project to the US Ignite and Smart Cities Conference in April 2019 in Denver.

The driving force behind Ignite SA is the Department of Industry and Skills in conjunction with UniSA, in particular the Information Strategy and Technology Services (ISTS) unit and the Innovation & Collaboration Centre.

Applications are open now, closing on Friday 7 September. More information on how to apply and application requirements can be found on the website here.
