South Australian students with an interest in space can now apply for scholarships worth $13,500 each to participate in the highly regarded International Space University’s (ISU) Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program at the University of South Australia in 2019.
The State Government, through the South Australian Space Industry Centre (SASIC), will provide a total of five scholarships for South Australians to participate in the intensive five-week, live-in summer school program and gain valuable skills to forge a career in the high-tech space industry.
SASIC Chief Executive Richard Price said the scholarships will provide a terrific stepping stone for five South Australians to get a foothold in the lucrative space industry.
“This is an exciting opportunity for some of our brightest young minds to gain the essential skills needed to forge a career in the growing space industry,” he said.
“We are committed to encouraging entrepreneurship and inspiring young people to pursue careers in space as we look to grow Australia’s share of this lucrative industry.
“There is so much happening in the space industry in Australia at the moment and we are creating opportunities in this exciting industry that can start right here in South Australia.
“We are continuing to build on our industrial and academic strengths, and our success in research and development to demonstrate why South Australia is a key player in this industry.”
The scholarships are open to five university graduates and undergraduates and will cover all tuition, accommodation and meal costs associated with the program.
The program, held at the University of South Australia’s Mawson Lakes campus from 14 January to 15 February, attracts around 50 participants from around the world to undertake multidisciplinary professional training in key areas of knowledge for professionals in the space sector.
Applications for the 2019 Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program scholarships close on 15 November 2018.
